Clogged Drainage – A Major Vexation!.
Clogged Drainage – A Major Vexation!.
You are standing under the shower for a relaxing time, and all of sudden you realize that water is rising around your toes. Yuck! A clogged drainpipe. What about that wet sinking feeling when you are brushing your teeth at the washbasin on a lousy Monday morning and the filled sink just refuses to drain!. Clearing plugged drainage is something everyone wants to avoid because it’s such a messy task and the defective drains make one appear unhygienic (and that’s what those drainage are). However it is something that every household has to deal with, sooner or later. But there are ways to unblock bathroom drainage easily and can make this unenviable job a lot easier.
Why do drains get clogged?.
They get clogged up when dust, hair and other particles get entrapped between the pipes inside the bathroom drain pipe. The condition gets worse when products like conditioners, shampoos and detergents accumulate in the already blocked drains. Eventually the clumps of accumulated matter prevent water from flushing out quickly or may even completely seal the drain pipe hole. If your sink or tub fills up fast with water while it should have drained out quickly, you could be in for a serious case of clogged pipes.
Clear Up Your drainage fast.
Here are a few things that you can do to clean your obstructed bathroom drain pipe and get the water running. The first thing that you need to do is to remove the stopper of your sink or bathtub drain. You can easily remove the stopper by pulling it off from the bathroom sink, however if it’s fixed under the sink then you need to unscrew the nuts. With respect to the bathtub, the screws have to be loosened to remove the plug or the overflow plate has to be dismantled.
The accumulated matter clogging up your drain may be clearly visible when you have taken off the stopper. It is very likely to look like a small mass of hair and debris wrapped around the drainpipe’s hardware. Put on a pair of gloves and extract whatever clogs comes within reach. If it is difficult to reach the area where the clog is located, or difficult to grasp the mass, simply use a bent wire clothes hanger to help you do the job. This step of removing the residual clumps will remove the local blockage at your drainpipe point.
However other methods can be used in case the clog is unreachable even with a hanger. The most practical way to clean such deep-seated blockages is a drain plunger. Begin by covering the overflow drainpipe with a wet towel so as to create a stronger suction from the plunger. Now put the plunger over the drain pipe and move it up and down continuously at an even pace. You may find that this suction-push action of the plunger loosens the clogged debris down the pipe and the collected water now drains freely.
You can unblock the drainage through chemical drain cleaner too if a drainage plunger does not work for you. The chemicals have the potential to harm your bathroom fixtures, and they are dangerous too; for this reason, they should be used only when all the above methods fail to unclog your drain.
If all else fails, get a professional drains service in.
If the above methods fail to solve your plugged drain pipe problem then you may have to contact a plumber. Professional plumbers will have specialist equipment and know-how to unblock your drain in next to no time. It may cost you, but you will find it is worth the money once you can use your sink and shower worry free.
