Drain lining questions







If you have your drain lined there are a set of questiuons that coime to mind.

Some helpful drain lining clarifications are listed below.

How will the drain lining affect my plumbing?

To complete the liner installation the Drains Contractor will temporarily plug
your lateral service connection from the mainline. The entire process
takes approximately six to eight hours. Once the liner has
cured, the Drains Contractor will insert a robotic cutting instrument into the
pipeline and cut your service connection back open.

What should be done if any odor is encountered after drain lining?

The odor that is produced by the curing process is safe and is a result of styrene within the resin in the drain. The Styrene Information and Research Center has compiled a list of Frequently Asked Questions regarding styrene. Locate the drain that the odor is coming from pour a cup or two of water down it. If the smell persists place a damp rag over the drain.

Can I use my toilet and sink during the drain lining process?

Yes! Please just refrain from large water usage activities such as dish washing, laundry, baths, or showers. They will need to wait for a few hours.  Your plugged service lateral service has a limited storage capacity and there in no where for the water to go until your service is reopened.

Will there be an odor during the sewer lining process?

Yes, there will be an odor during the lining process. The odor however
will not be Sewage, it will be a plastic smell as a result of the resin
lining curing (hardening) inside the sewer system. This odor is from a
chemical process and is temporary and will dissapear over a number of hours.
