One of the most risky consequences of a plumbing system blockage is sewage back flow.

If drainage is leaking out into your bathroom’s tub, toilet or shower, you should make a call to your plumber straightaway. Sewage is polluted with bugs therefore it should be removed and the offending piping be fixed without a delay to avoid a double occurence.

Dilute a cup of bleach with 5 gallons of water and start sanitising the toilet, even before the plumbers come in. Keep kids, older relatives, and pets away from the area, and wear long pants, eye wear, gloves and boots. Be sure to thoroughly wash your hands with warm water and soap when you have finished the drains clearup. You can help keep drainage from backing up into your home by limiting the amount of water going down the drain.

It may be a clog between the shower and toilet, or the waste line may be stopped. Regardless of the reason, providing protection to your household and yourself from risky waste should come to the forefront.

Symptoms from being exposed to drainage may include diarrhea, stomach pain, fever, chills, and vomiting. Such symptoms require immediate medical help, contact a doctor if this happens.

With a mixture of one cup of bleach to five gallons of water you should clean any items and surfaces that have been polluted by the sewerage. Any sewage affected item that cannot be washed, like pillows, mattresses or stuffed toys, has to be disposed off safely.

You can use a plumbers snake if the drainage back up is in shower area. For such drainpipes and pipe joints in close proximity, a quarter-inch snake of 25 feet length will work fine. This size will be easier to guide through the pipe works. Sometimes a toilet in the bathroom is quite clear while the shower in the same area has gotten clogged. This happens because the toilet trap is installed about 6 inches above the floor and the shower drain is installed at the same level as the floor.

If you can’t remove this leakage on your own, you should ask for professional help from a drainage company. A plumber will not only be able to clean up the mess that the leaked drainage created for you but also locate where the blockage is. It is better to let the expert handle the plumbing fixes unless you know exactly what you are doing.
